The January 2025 versions of SheepShaver 2.5 - With Mac Classic 9 - for Windows or Mac Systems.
Recommended: set the amount of RAM to 1024 MB in the Memory/Misc Tab - for best performance. The Latest versions (2025) support The Latest Systems. I updated this project, again - 3 years and 1 month after I first posted it.
January 2025 Version of SheepShaver 2.5 for Windows Systems: https://archive.org/download/sheepshaver_202201/sheepshaverwindows25.zip
Built/Tested on Windows 10 - Leave a Remark if it does not work.
Built/Tested on Windows 10 - Leave a Remark if it does not work.
BE SURE to check the “Ignore Illegal Memory Accesses” checkbox in the
Miscellaneous tab, in SheepShaver settings, when starting it up for the
first time. This can help prevent many crashes.
Double Click the file SheepShaverGUI.exe to start it.
First Run - set it like this:
Memory/Misc ----> Select 1024 under RAM and Browse to MAC OS ROM in the ROM selector box.
Network ----> Choose Basilisk II Slirp.
Keyboard/Mouse ----> Check "Use RAW Keycodes" checkbox and Browse to keycodes.ansi in the Keycodes selection area.
Graphics ----> Select "Window" / Windows Refresh Rate select "Dynamic" / For Width select "1600" / For Height select "900" (Other possible resolutions are 1024 by 768 / 800 by 600 / and 640 by 480 - you may type any of those pairs of Numbers instead: but 1600 by 900 is the largest possible in Windowed Mode.)
Volumes ----> Browse to "MacSystem9" and Add it to the list of Volumes. / Select the "My Computer" (Access Mac Disks) checkbox - and in the box below that type C,D,E,F,G to access the Windows File System from the Mac OS 9 Emulator.
Click the "Start" Button.
When Finished: Shut down the Emulator under "Special Menu" - Shut Down and when it shuts off properly - click the "Quit" Button.
Every launch after that: just click the Start button. Shut it down as above.
I took the liberty, during the upgrade, to add two new programs to the built in Mac OS 9 Hard Drive image for Windows - you will find the added programs already in the Launcher Control Panel. (Shhhhh … it's a secret.)

The file appearance_panel.zip
has extra Mac OS 8.0 to 9.2 appearance extra files - 41 Sound Sets, 56
Appearance Themes, and 48 Desktop Pictures are in a zipped up folder.
Unzip this folder into your SheepShaver Shared Folder. When in
SheepShaver the next time: follow the instructions in the text file
included in the archive to install them properly. Works on Windows OR
Macintosh Versions of SheepShaver.

(All below were Left unchanged … )
The OLD Versions Below still work - From August of 2023 - I updated the binary files to the 2023 Versions! I could NEVER get QEMU to emulate System 9 - but Sheepshaver Just Works: Right Out-of-the-Box!
BE SURE to check the “Ignore Illegal Memory Accesses” checkbox in the
Miscellaneous tab, in SheepShaver settings, when starting it up for the

I just swapped in the newest Executable File, and recompressed the Archive - it is untested. This version handles framebuffering differently - Leave a Remark if it does not work.

This part was left unchanged - from February of 2022:
This is the Archive of my SheepShaver Folder, from my Applications Folder.
The Macintosh Version of SheepShaver (Version 2.5) works on Mac OS X 10.9 through Mac OS 11.2 ... with Intel OR ARM Hardware. OS 9 Classic (9.0.4) is installed on the capacious disk image.
System Specs: This is a PowerMac 9500 Series [New World ROM] with an 8 GB Hard Drive / 1024 MB RAM / using a G4 PPC Processor running at 100 Mhz.
The "Install 9" archive has this same archive, and a document that attempts to walk you through the initial parameter's setup steps, zipped up together in a folder. If you have never set up the SheepShaver Emulator before ... this archive might be the one you are looking for.
All Files were downloaded from
OR From
or from https://macintoshgarden.org/ or https://www.macintoshrepository.org, or even from archive.org's Classic Mac software archives themselves.
I merely assembled / setup / tested / and zipped up a few of them together. Then I uploaded this system backup for safe keeping.
If you are in need of the Macintosh Classic System 9 (PPC) - to run on Windows, OR your INTEL or M1 Macintosh System - this is a "Turnkey" solution to set that up the first time, and to use after that.
The Macintosh Setup Guide to refer to is here:
(95% of this has been done already: you just need to set it up, on it's first run.) ____________________________________________________________________________________
Just Added: The Archive named sheepshaverwindows.zip is the SheepShaver Folder from my Windows 10 system ... Zipped up. This Archive runs Mac Classic System 9.0.4 in a Window on your Windows System. The Size of the built in Hard Drive Image is only 2 GB in the Windows Versions (8 GB on Mac) - but otherwise the Emulated System Specs are the Same as the Mac Version. It still thinks it is a 100 Mhz G4 PowerMac 9500 with 1024K RAM onboard.
A Setup Guide to refer to is here:
(95% of this has been done already: you just need to set it up, on it's first run.)
Next Update will likely be in a few years. For the Time Being this will allow use of Old "Classic" Mac OS 8 or 9 software on the newest systems.

As of the January 2025 Update it should now work OK on your New Mac OS System - it now runs on MacOS 15 (Sequoia).
I think I have a clue: when you do ... the first run BE SURE to check the “Ignore Illegal Memory Accesses” checkbox in Miscellaneous tab in SheepShaver settings when starting it up for the first time.

These are the proper setup steps (I've done all of the first, hard, ones already and made a functioning boot volume) and you should know them well before continuing ... https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/sheepshaver_mac_os_x_setup
